when he was in Los Angeles, the other is of Craig Lawrence and his family
enjoying their Thanksgiving dinner. The third attachment is
a newsletter from Gary Schroeder '55 which I hope will inspire you to send me
some fun reading about you and your family. Take a look at what Gary has done
and how gals 'n guys from '52-'62 are keeping their group entertained and
informed.
COFFEE WITH THE CANUK!
If you were able to open the photo, you'll see we enjoyed a very filling breakfast -- that's the only reason our stomachs are lapping over our belts! Roger was visiting Disneyland with his grandchildren, seems he has a family history of girls, and managed to slip away from "the happiest
place on earth" to take care some business in Oxnard, CA. Luckily that had
him driving through the Burbank area where we met. Roger has a business restoring classic cars, especially Mustangs, and was one his way to visit one of his parts suppliers.
Rebuilding cars is one of Roger's passions, another is the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. He spent 35 years in the Mounties before retiring, only to be lured back to head up the firearm registration program in Vancouver, BC. The Mounties know a good man when they see one.
OUR SHEPHERD'S ON THE ROAD.
Had an e-mail from Ed Smith McIntosh early in the month outlining some travel plans he was planning for his company. He's set up a new program for fleet management and was heading to Florida and Virginia to conduct some training and orientation for the program. He's back home now and dreaming of retiring to the McIntosh farm outside Huntsville, TX, and going back to school. This time he'll wear socks! And I almost forgot, Ed hooked up with an alumni group for his old Navy squadron, VP-2. Just imagine the "Cheap Charlie" impressions going on with that group -- inside joke for some of us.

REACTION TO WIKI'S NOTE ABOUT THE VIETNAM WALL.
Just before receiving the attached Thanksgiving picture from Craig Lawrence '65 he wrote about how much Wilka Mims Carter's note about finding Bill Donick's name on the wall had effected him. He went through a similar experience finding the name of Robert (Moe) Alton Mulholland '65 who was Craig's best friend at Central. Moe was killed in Vietnam in 1968. We'll never forget the Bobcats that gave their lives in the military.
DA' GODFATHER GETS JAZZED.
Hooked up with Frank Badami at a Hollywood jazz club to hear a group he has been raving about for several years, "Rick Latham and The Groove Doctors." They were incredible! Frank has known Rick, a fellow drummer, for several years and he's put together a touring band that has settled in Los Angeles for a while. They offer their music up on MP3 and have been the #1 jazz CD for over 15 weeks.
Frank's doing fine and plans to spend the Christmas/New Years holidays in New York with family and wrote about a relative, Victor Badami, who received "The Soldiers Award" for saving lives at the Pentagon attack. He also wrote that Bruce Spilker may be visiting the Los Angeles area in the Spring. Could another "Left Coast Martini Marathon" be in the offing?
MANOS MAKING IT TO CANADA!
Mark your calendar Roger Kembel, Dianne Manos Costanzo and family will be heading to British Columbia in August. Her son, Louis, has earned a spot in the Canadian Ironman competition set for August 25. He's been doing triathlons the last two summers, and just completed the Philadelphia Marathon November 18th. Louis will graduate from Penn State (?) this May with an engineering degree.
And it looks like daughter, Dena, might be getting a little more serious about "the beau." More to come on that I'm sure as we approach Spring and the wedding season.
Dianne's other son, Andrew, is in his first year at Holy Cross and has "just slide right into the entire scene." He's in the Classics department and, as Dianne wrote, thinks "Roman Satire in Latin as the cats meow."
AND SPEAKING OF CLASSICS!
What a great segue! Had a Thanksgiving message from my favorite English teacher, Jack Wernette, who managed to lighten up some of the travel tension we all must face for some time to come I think. Seems his wife, Peg Hebert Wernette, also a teacher at Central, had her four-inch metal nail file taken out of her purse before she was allowed to board a plane for a stateside visit. As Jack put it, "she mourned its passing, since she had traveled with it for some forty years." Now I know some of our teachers were terrors back in '64 but c'mon!
SUE BOYLE McGUIRE MAY HOST SEX PARTY!!
Bet that got your attention. Seems Sue's mom, who is living with her now, is in much better health and ready and raring to go. Here's what Sue wrote:
"Last night she told me she was bored and has decided to run for 'Sexy Senior Citizen of Desoto County.' Told her that was fine; but I did not want a bunch of old farts hanging around my house drinking, playing loud music, smoking those funny cigarettes and eating my groceries ... funny how our roles can be reversed."
Does any one besides me remember being put on restriction? Wonder if that threat will work for mom, Sue.
MORE GRANDBABIES.
Ann Gray Rethard is a grandmother again with the birth of Mark Forrest weighing in at a healthy 10 lbs. and was 21 3/4 inches long -- whew, poor mom! Any one else out there lucky and proud enough to share news about a new grandbaby?
'52 - '62 UPDATE.
I hope everyone can open the update provided by Gary Schroeder '55. It is chock full of fun reading from members of their Bobcat family. They were the individuals that graduated from Bushy Park before the base closed. I was fortunate enough to go there for one year -- God! the hamburgers were good, and Coach Bova was so bad. You'll read how much sharing goes on with the group, can we do the same? Any suggestions on how to get more participation from us?
CHARLESTON ANYONE?
Need to hear from more people interested in gathering in Charleston, SC, Jim Fei's stomping grounds. You know he'll point us in the right direction for a great time. We'll need to get on it after the holidays if you are interested. Although Jim says the humidity can be high during the summer, most people that have responded are leaning towards June or July.
HAVE A MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A SAFE, HAPPY NEW YEAR. MAKE 2002 YOUR HEALTHIEST AND MOST PROSPEROUS YEAR EVER.
